One & Many Exhibition Catalog2023

Catalog from my solo exhibition One & Many, written and designed by me.

One & Many maps the self as a collection of beings, histories, and places. It centers around two artistic rituals, both of which think with soil as a central teacher and collaborator, looking to it as a boundless body that entangles a multiplicity of lifeforms, places, and histories. My artistic work holds a foundational commitment to collaboration and process. And since soil, selfhood, and stories are ever emergent, the work in this exhibition reflects both the processes and outcomes of planting the literal and metaphoric seeds of these soil-based rituals.”

Olfactory Resistance at the End of the World2021

Chapter in book “Olfactory Art and the Political in an Age of Resistance” edited by Gwenn-Aël Lynn and Debra Riley Parr.

Chapter Abstract:
Though Western authorities have historically devalued smell as a skill and a valid way of learning about the world, the most powerful scent capture and dispersion technologies are currently in the hands of top level governmental and corporate interests. This chapter will outline the many ways in which awareness of the scents in our surrounding environments can serve us in a variety of potential "doomsday" futures, from protection against immediate environmental dangers in a literal climate apocalypse scenario to protection against the growing olfactory surveillance infrastructure and scentscape manipulation strategies put in place by the technocrats, politicians, and corporations in possession of these technologies. The chapter will argue for the ways in which a sharpened sense of smell can serve as a powerful skill of resistance today and become an important addition to our collective toolkit for survival.
